llms.txt

```
# Rosa's Bakery
> A neighbourhood bakery in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, baking sourdough bread and pastries.
## Pages
- [Menu](https://example.com/menu/): Breads, pastries and prices
- [Visit us](https://example.com/visit/): Opening hours and address
## Optional
- [Our story](https://example.com/about/)
```

Save it as llms.txt at the root of your site (example.com/llms.txt). On vagejs, skip the file: it's written from your pages on every build, so it never goes out of date. [How](https://vagejs.com/docs/seo/)

## How it works

1. **Name your site and summarise it** in a sentence or two: what it is and who it's for.
2. **List your key pages,** one per line, as `Title | address | short note`. Paste bare addresses if you like; the tool makes a title from each one. Or import up to 50 pages from your sitemap and just add the notes. Start a line with `#` to group pages into sections.
3. **Copy the file** and save it as `llms.txt` at the root of your site, for example `example.com/llms.txt`.

## What goes in an llms.txt file

The file is plain Markdown, in this order:

- **A `#` heading** with the site's name. It's the only required part.
- **A `>` summary** of what the site is.
- **Optional paragraphs** with any extra context.
- **Sections of links,** each under a `##` heading. Each item is a Markdown link, with a short note after a colon if you like.
- **A section called "Optional"** for pages an AI tool can skip when it needs to keep things short.

## Questions

### What is llms.txt?

A plain-text guide to your website for AI tools, proposed by Jeremy Howard in September 2024. It lists your most useful pages with a short note on each, so a tool can find the right page without reading the whole site.

### Is llms.txt an official standard?

No. It's a proposal that's open to community input, and no search engine requires it. Publishing one doesn't guarantee that any AI system reads it.

### Does llms.txt help Google rankings?

No. Google says you don't need special AI files to appear in its AI features. What helps there is the usual: crawlable pages, useful content and a working sitemap. Which AI crawlers may visit your site is a robots.txt question; the [AI crawler robots.txt generator](https://vagejs.com/tools/ai-crawler-robots-txt/) helps with that.

### Should I list every page?

No. List the pages that best explain your site, such as your docs, pricing, contact details and key guides. A short, accurate list is more useful than a long one.

### Can my website keep llms.txt up to date for me?

With [vagejs](https://vagejs.com/), yes: it writes llms.txt from your published pages on every build, so new pages appear and deleted ones disappear without you editing the file. It can also publish a Markdown copy of each page for AI tools. See [SEO and AI search](https://vagejs.com/docs/seo/). llms.txt is one optional step; [how to make your website visible in AI search](https://vagejs.com/guides/ai-search-visibility/) covers the ones that matter more.
