Answer a few questions and get a ready-to-paste prompt that tells your AI tool how to build your website: Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, Gemini CLI, or ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini in the browser. It's free, there's nothing to sign up for, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

Your prompt

```
I want to build a website with vagejs, a free static site generator made for AI coding assistants.
About the site
- Name: MY SITE NAME
- What it's for: WHAT I DO AND FOR WHOM
- Pages: Home, About, Contact
Facts you can use (don't invent anything else):
MY PRICES, OPENING HOURS, CONTACT DETAILS AND OTHER REAL FACTS
Steps
1. Create the site: run npm create vagejs@latest my-site, then cd my-site and npm install.
2. Read AGENTS.md in the new folder and follow its rules.
3. Create the pages, each with a title and a description under 160 characters, and add them to the main menu.
4. Don't invent prices, numbers, testimonials, quotes, names or links: ask me instead.
5. Run npm run check and fix what it reports until it shows 0 errors.
6. Start the site with npm run dev and tell me the address so I can review it.
7. Publish only after I say yes: run npx vage deploy and show me the plan first.
```

Nothing you type leaves your browser. Copy the prompt, paste it into your AI tool, and review what it builds.

## How it works

1. **Describe your site:** its name, what you do and for whom, the pages you want and the tone.
2. **Pick your AI tool and where you'll publish.** The prompt changes to match. With ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini in the browser, for example, it asks the AI to guide you one step at a time.
3. **Copy the prompt, paste it into your AI tool,** and review what it builds before anything goes live.

The prompts use [vagejs](https://vagejs.com/), a free, open-source static site generator, so you end up with a fast website made of plain files you own. For smaller jobs on an existing site, see the [prompt library](https://vagejs.com/prompts/).

## What makes a good website prompt

AI tools build better websites when the prompt gives them five things:

- **Real facts, and a rule to ask for the rest.** Without one, an AI fills the gaps with made-up prices, reviews and names.
- **The pages you want,** so nothing important is missing and nothing unwanted is added.
- **A tone,** so the words sound like you.
- **A check before it says it's done.** `npm run check` catches broken links, missing page titles and descriptions, and accessibility slips, and names the file to fix.
- **Your approval before publishing,** so nothing goes live by surprise.

Every prompt this page writes includes all five.

## Questions

### Is the prompt generator free?

Yes. It's free and needs no sign-up. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere.

### Does it work with ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini?

Yes. Choose "An AI chat", and the prompt asks the AI to guide you step by step: it tells you each command to run and each file to create, and you do them on your computer. With Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex or Gemini CLI, the assistant works on the files itself.

### Do I need to know how to code?

No. You need Node.js 22.12 or newer on your computer, and the prompt asks the AI to walk you through the rest. To change pages later without opening files, vagejs includes a [local editor](https://vagejs.com/docs/content-authoring/#edit-in-your-browser) with a live preview.

### Can I use a site I like as a reference?

Yes. Add its address, and the prompt asks the AI to use it for layout and feel only, without copying its text, images or branding.

### Where can I publish the website?

On GitHub Pages, Cloudflare or Netlify with one command (`npx vage deploy`), or on Vercel and any other static host. All of them have free plans. See [deployment](https://vagejs.com/docs/deployment/).

### What is vagejs?

A free, open-source (MIT) static site generator built for AI coding assistants. It turns text files into a fast website and checks every page before it goes live. See [getting started](https://vagejs.com/docs/getting-started/).
